We’re already halfway through artoberVA; how did that happen? As always, a lot is happening. With so many options on our calendar, we hope to see you out and about in the community this week!

  • 10/21-10/25: El Dia de Los Muertos, Swift Creek Mill Theatre – “If you haven’t seen the Latin Ballet of Virginia, GO SEE THIS! It’s going to be a beautiful production! They are verrrrrrry good!”

  • 10/25-10/26: Petersburg Haunts Walking Tours, Petersburg –“Halloween is my favorite holiday and I love history! This is a perfect combination of spooky fun for me! 👻OOOOoooooOOOOO”

  • 10/26-10/27: 2019 Poe Film Festival, Institute for Contemporary Art – “It’s so great that there is always new art! Check out these contemporary takes on the work of one of the greatest storytellers in history!”

Capital One and CultureWorks are partnering together to bring Studio 4 Dance Company back to the Capital One Cafe in Carytown! Join us on Saturday, October 26 from 12-4 PM for an afternoon of music, dancing, and fun. No previous skills required; come ready to learn the iconic "Thriller" choreography from the Studio 4 dancers!

And join us on Sunday, October 27 from 2-4 PM at the Capital One Cafe in Short Pump for an art-filled afternoon with local artist Noah Scalin! Noah will reveal his latest sticker commissioned piece of sticker art, demonstrate how he created it, and answer all of your questions during an open Q&A session. and talk with folks in a Q&A. You will also learn how to create your own sticker art piece!

The last weekend of artoberVA is packing in a punch! There is no shortage of festivals, events, galleries, and more to choose from. Here are a few highlights to look forward to this weekend:

Garden Glow at Maymont

  • October 25-27: The Current Art Fair - “CURRENT is back with 19 Exhibitors, an interactive midway where you can create art, and The CURRENT Theatre is chockfull of inspiring presentations. Collect. Create. Cultivate!”

  • Opening October 26: Garden Glow at Maymont - “Brighten your autumn nights on a wondrous journey through the Japanese Garden at Maymont. The garden will shine with dramatic light displays for an enchanting experience to delight families, couples and nature lovers of all ages.”

  • October 26: Poe’s Pumpkin Patch - “This annual event features fun for the whole family! Feel free to come in costume, and plan for a fun day with face-painting, puppet-making, pumpkin decorating, games, and more.”

  • October 26: Oktoberfest - “Celebrate fall, nature’s grand finale, with OktoberFest at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden — a day filled with live music by the Bellevue Rhythmaires, games and prizes, all included in Garden admission.”

  • October 26: Fancy Me Mad - “Walk among spirits in the graveyard, including Eliza Poe, mother of Edgar; George Wythe and his murderous nephew; Elizabeth Van Lew, and more!”

  • October 27: Dia De Los Muertos Festival - “Festive fun for all ages! In conjunction with the Latin Ballet of Virginia, “Dia de los Muertos” is a festive celebration of life with live performances, dancing, music, sweets, treats, and fun art activities for the whole family!”

  • October 27: Annual Fall Festival at The Robinson Theater - “This a way to gather the neighborhood and feature local fine and performing artists and organizations. The event is FREE and includes music, entertainment, kids' zone, food, local vendors/artists, pumpkin decorating, costume contest and more!”
