The Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia — Call for Virginia Artists for New Exhibition

The Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia is inviting Virginia-born or Virginia-based artists to participate in BHMVA’s upcoming exhibition “Bodies of Labor: Hands That Built a Nation” which will open April 2, 2025.

This is a call for painters, sculptors, illustrators, photographers, traditional printmakers, fabric artists, glass, and wood artisans, and is open to visual artists working in oil, acrylic, watercolor, film, paper, mixed media, fabric, glass, wood, stone, clay, pencil, and charcoal. Much like our ancestors, the options are limitless.

This is an invitation for artists to showcase perspectives of African Americans and labor over the 400+ years of inhabiting this continent. Depiction of labor through the artist’s lens will reflect the hopes, dreams and fortitude of utilizing their talents, aspirations and creativity.
