artoberVA and Its Impact on Our Region
artoberVA is a month-long celebration in Richmond and the Tri-Cities that uplifts artists, organizations, and underserved communities through elevating accessible arts and culture events and experiences. But, you may be wondering, how exactly does artoberVA uplift our community?
In light of the past (almost) two years of pandemic isolation and limitation, artoberVA’s efforts have encouraged the community to come together to appreciate the healing nature of arts and culture. Folks continue to seek silver linings during this pandemic, and enjoy connecting with friends, family, and even strangers at each artoberVA event! From jamming to live music at the Hopewell Bluegrass Jamboree to shopping for local arts and crafts at the Richmond Night Market, these experiences not only uplifted the general public, but also provided local artists, musicians, and performers a chance to continue practicing their craft while making a living.
Although we are seeing a great turnout for artoberVA events this year, we know that many of those in the arts and culture community have experienced their share of hardships. Those who’ve submitted their arts and culture stories during artoberVA (link to form) have expressed their lack of inspiration and high probability of burn-out during the pandemic. It was hard for many artists to find joy in creating art or even to find the motivation to begin. There is no doubt that the arts and culture community was hit hard during the pandemic; thus, we quickly organized the COVID-19 Relief Fund to provide crisis funding for artists and creative workforce professionals region-wide . While the Fund financially benefited the community greatly, artoberVA benefits our community by reminding Richmond and the Tri-Cities that through any adversity, arts and culture will continue to live on.
Remember to check out our Arts and Culture Calendar each day to discover events and experiences across the Region. Be sure to tag us at @artoberVA on social media and use the hashtag, #artoberVA for a chance to be featured on our social media channels!
