VCCA Summer 2026 Residency Applications Open through September 15
The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (VCCA) provides time and space for national and international writers, visual artists, and composers of talent and promise to bring forth their finest works, because the arts are vital, diversity is a strength, and creativity is essential.
Selected artists come to VCCA’s Mt. San Angelo in Amherst, Virginia or the Moulin à Nef in Auvillar, France for intense periods of creative work, free from the distractions of day-to-day life. During residencies lasting anywhere from a week to two months, VCCA Fellows enjoy private studios, private bedrooms, and meals. Whether sequestered in the rolling foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains or on the banks of the Garonne River in Southwest France, VCCA Fellows can work in concentrated solitude, then re-energize in the company of other artists.

SHENARTS CALL FOR ART FOR UNTITLED
What exists when there is no theme? What happens when meaning isn’t prescribed, when boundaries dissolve, and when interpretation is entirely open?
Untitled is an exhibition exploring the freedom—and challenge—of creating without a given narrative. Artists are invited to submit works that embrace ambiguity, resist categorization, or simply exist on their own terms. This is an opportunity to present pieces that may not fit neatly into past exhibitions, or to create something new that speaks to the power of the undefined.
There are no restrictions on subject, medium, or style. The absence of a theme is the theme. Let your work stand for itself, without explanation—or let it carry its own mysterious story.
Untitled will be displayed in our beautiful new ShenArts Gallery located on a prime spot on the Downtown Walking Mall. Due to the location being such high visibility, we recommend your piece be for sale!
Deadline to submit: August 18
