VisArts Annual Artist + Writer Residency Accepting Applications

The Visual Arts Center of Richmond (VisArts) invites visual artists and writers to apply for the organization’s 11-month residency. Three visual artists and one writer will be invited to spend the year at VisArts (September 1st 2026 – July 31st 2027) making new work which will be included in a group exhibition and reading at VisArts midway through the residency.

VisArts provides Annual Residents with:

  • 24/7 access to private studio space

  • Access to VisArts’ 17 professional art studios

  • $5,000 honorarium

  • Professional studio headshots and documentation of work

  • Other benefits intended to enhance creative practices, such as studio training, free VisArts classes, private lessons, and the opportunity to work in a community of makers.

This residency is open to artists in all stages of their careers. VisArts will prioritize artists who have a demonstrated creative practice and are either emerging in their field or exploring new ideas or media.

 

Art Works Call for Entires for Art in Bloom

Art in Bloom, presented in collaboration with the Historic Richmond Foundation during Virginia Historic Garden Week, will bring the season indoors. We’re looking for artists from across Virginia to share their interpretation of the natural world — in any medium.

The juried exhibition opens April 17, 2026, in the Center Gallery at Art Works and runs through May 16, 2026. There are cash prizes.

Call for Entries for 2026 Appalachian Nature Art & Photography Competition and Exhibition

Appalachian Nature Art & Photography Competition & Exhibition, a juried regional competition celebrating nature across Appalachia, invites artists and photographers age 18 and older who reside in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, DC to enter.

There are over $2000 in prizes. Eligible submissions include two-dimensional artwork and photography depicting nature in Appalachia—landscapes, plants, wildlife, and other natural subjects. While eligibility is limited to residents of the four-state region, entries may portray nature from any Appalachian state.

Entry Deadline: April 7, 2026

Opening Reception: Friday, May 15, 2026

Exhibition Dates: May 15 – June 20, 2026

Henrico Theatre Company holding auditions

Henrico Theatre Company is holding auditions for their production of Getting Sara Married, a comedy by Sam Bobrick.

CASTING: Director Amber dePass is seeking two women, age 20-40, one woman, age 60+ and three men, age 30-55.

WHEN: Sunday, March 8 at 4 p.m. & Tuesday, March 10 at 7 p.m.

WHERE: The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. 2880 Mountain Rd, Glen Allen, VA 23060.

Readings will be from the script. Performances May 1-17, 2026. No performers paid.

Public Humanities Fellowship with Virginia Humanities

Applications are open for Virginia Humanities’ Public Humanities Fellowships!

Writers, scholars, and community historians receive a $15,000 stipend for a fourth-month project, plus access to UVA and Library of Virginia archives and a cohort of peers.

Tidewater arts outreach recruiting for artist roster

Join Tidewater Arts Outreach as an artist serving older adults and those in isolating circumstances as they expand programming to Richmond!

All mediums (music, visual art, dance, drama, creative writing, etc.) are welcome. Artists are compensated for their time and all materials are provided. Artists are being accepted on a rolling basis.
