Cultureworks is the only arts & culture organization focused on the 15 distinct localities within Greater Richmond and the Tri-Cities.  We serve as a connector, translator and infrastructure builder so that arts can reach audiences, institutions can collaborate, funders can invest strategically and our communities can realize the full economic and social value of the arts.

Our mission

Strengthening artists and arts and culture organizations to increase their impact in our region.

Our Vision

CultureWorks values diversity and inclusivity, and we believe everyone in our community should have access to arts and culture, and the opportunity to express their culture through the arts.

We envision a vibrant region with empowered artists and arts and culture organizations. We will accomplish this by providing grant opportunities, deepening access to communities with barriers, increasing the capacity of small and medium-sized organizations and individual artists, and by promoting opportunities to experience the art with the public.

After our best efforts to execute on our goals, our work will have the following impacts:

  • Local communities, civic leaders, and government prioritize arts and culture as an essential driver of economic and social vitality

  • The arts and culture community is well-connected and empowered with a robust collaborative power and presence

  • Artists and organizations have the resources and support to survive and thrive

How we do it:

  • Measure and promote the economic impact of the arts, which totaled more than $329 million in activity and nearly 7,000 regional jobs.

  • Unify and mobilize the arts and culture community through ArtoberVA, quarterly networking and other community resources and events.

  • Invest in arts and culture through our Community Impact Grant

  • Fortify Cultureworks role as the connector, translator and infrastructure builder
