Gallery5 now accepting submissions for The Carnival of 5 Fires, opening First Friday, October 3rd, 2025
Gallery5 is currently taking art submissions for our annual Carnival of 5 Fires group exhibition, with work inspired by the mysterious, macabre, occult, witchy, tarot, creepy, freakish, absurd, carnival culture, circus, etc...It's the start of spooky season!
October First Friday kicks off with a full indoor and outdoor multi-faceted visual and performing arts celebration featuring this exhibition + live music, interactive games, arts vendors and maker tables, burlesque, belly dance, circus acts, fire performances, DJs, parade puppets, and more.
Submissions will be reviewed by the exhibition curators with notification emails of acceptance into the show sent out to all applicants by Wednesday, September 10th.

call for artists: artsfairfax seeking digital artwork
ArtsFairfax, in partnership with the Fairfax County Department of Planning and Development, is currently seeking artists to submit their qualifications to design digital artwork to be placed upon windscreens in the planned Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) stations along a 7.5 mile stretch of Richmond Highway in Southeast Fairfax County, VA.
Professional artists, muralists, and graphic design professionals are invited to apply, and we would appreciate if you could please share this opportunity with your network!

Call for Artists: FORWARD MOTION
Curated by Art House and Nico Cathcart, this group exhibition aims to explore the concept of Forward Motion. This gallery show will coincide with the ribbon cutting for Nico Cathcart's new mural activation at Port City in collaboration with the Brown Ballerina's for Change . This show will open October 24 and run for a month.

James River Short Film Showcase Accepting Submissions
James River Short Film Showcase is a mini-festival devoted to the short. The centerpiece is an international juried competition for short films (20 minutes or less) from around the globe that best embody what the James River Film Society and James River Film Festival are all about – the art of film and film as art. Dating to 1994, the competition is open to the experimental, animated, short narrative, and documentary films of 20 minutes or less.

VCCA Summer 2026 Residency Applications Open through September 15
The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (VCCA) provides time and space for national and international writers, visual artists, and composers of talent and promise to bring forth their finest works, because the arts are vital, diversity is a strength, and creativity is essential.
Selected artists come to VCCA’s Mt. San Angelo in Amherst, Virginia or the Moulin à Nef in Auvillar, France for intense periods of creative work, free from the distractions of day-to-day life. During residencies lasting anywhere from a week to two months, VCCA Fellows enjoy private studios, private bedrooms, and meals. Whether sequestered in the rolling foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains or on the banks of the Garonne River in Southwest France, VCCA Fellows can work in concentrated solitude, then re-energize in the company of other artists.

The Richmond International Film Festival is right around the corner and we would love for you to join us!
In its 14th year, RIFF is now one of the largest international competitive festivals on the east coast and recognized by more than 30 countries.
RIFF offers a rich, collaborative environment with more than 160 local, national and international films selected for their Richmond, Virginia premiere, plus community engagement events, industry panels, filmmaker and music Q & As, more than 25 live music performances, the Global Visionary Summit, educational workshops, mixers, and red-carpet awards!
RVA MakerFest 2025 - call for makers
Want to celebrate creativity, connect with the community, and inspire the next generation of makers?
Applications are open for makers from the fields of science, art, technology, sustainability, food, music, crafts, fashion and more to bring their skills to the festival. The event will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Deep Run High School in Henrico County, VA.
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis.
